We are thrilled that Juan Felipe Herrera has been named U.S. Poet Laureate by the Library of Congress. The writer, teacher and activist happens to be an Ezra Jack Keats Book Award winner! His 1997 picture book, Calling the Doves: El canto de las palomas, recalls, in English and Spanish, Herrera’s childhood traveling with his parents, who were migrant California farmworkers.  (See all EJK Book Award Winners)
