The EJK Bookmaking Competition is one of the NYC/Department of Education’s most successful programs having flourished for almost four decades. It has inspired thousands of students to enjoy reading and writing by giving them control of what they’re doing.
Children, New York natives and those who’ve moved here from across the country and around the world, write and illustrate stories about their lives and their dreams. Winners come from special education, gifted and mainstream programs, from traditional classrooms and even classrooms in prison. But every student who completes a book is treated like a winner because writing and illustrating a book is in itself a triumph.
Open to public schools in all five boroughs, for grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Celebrations include an Award Ceremony and Exhibition of winning books at Brooklyn Public Library, Central Branch
