A new Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Competition was launched this year on the West Coast, spearheaded by San Francisco’s Contemporary Jewish Museum in partnership with the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation and the San Francisco Unified School District. Student authors and illustrators at 18 schools (K-12) participated, and 16 of their books were declared winners. The CJM hosted an awards ceremony on February 21, 2013. The winning books were part of the city’s student arts festival at the Asian Art Museum, March 2-10, and all the submitted books were on view at the Main Branch of San Francisco Public Library, April 5-May 1.
